univie: International Winter School of Finno-Ugric Studies

univie: International Winter School of Finno-Ugric Studies

Vienna, 26 February – 3 March 2018

The Winter School is part of the Erasmus+ network INFUSE. It is primarily meant for students of the INFUSE partner institutes (Finno-Ugric/Uralic departments of the universities of Hamburg, Helsinki, Munich, Szeged, Tartu, Turku, Uppsala, and Vienna), especially (but not exclusively) advanced MA and PhD students.

From each partner institute (except the host institution), a certain number of students will receive a scholarship from the Erasmus+ funding, covering their travel and accommodation costs. Interested students must express their interest to the contact person at their institute by November 3, 2017. The applications are ranked at each institute; students falling outside the quota of their institute will be put on the waiting list, and from there, as many students as possible will be accepted, depending on the remaining funding. If there are still free places in the courses, external self-financed students can be accepted as well.

The Winter School consists of the following courses, workshops, and lectures:

The Winter School begins on Monday, 26 February (participants from outside Vienna are expected to arrive on Sunday the 25th) and ends on Saturday evening, 3 March (departure from Vienna on Sunday the 4th).

For the Winter School, each student can get 5 ECTS points, which will be acknowledged as part of their studies (in a way decided at each student’s home department). This requires

  • active attendance at all courses on all working days of the Winter School (1.5 ECTS);
  • passing the test in the Udmurt language course (2.0 ECTS);
  • making an active contribution in one of the workshops or the colloquium (1.0 ECTS);
  • writing a course diary or a learning portfolio or preparing a report about the winter school (at the student’s home department) (0.5 ECTS).

For further information, contact the teacher in charge at your department!
